A grievance was filed regarding FMLA violations and another one is pending. The Union may also file a complaint with the Department of Labor regarding FMLA violations at UIHC. Please let Anne know if you feel you have been retaliated against for using FMLA or denied the use of FMLA for personal or family reasons.
The office has received many emails, particularly from non-nursing professionals regarding overtime. The contract is very clear (Article VIII extra Time, page 13). Extra time is defined as time worked at the direction of the Employer, in excess of the employee’s regular assigned shift. Everyone in the bargaining unit has the right to be paid for working overtime. Each department should have a procedure about how overtime is handled. The need for working overtime to complete one’s assignment and how overtime hours are turned in should be communicated with direct supervisors. You might have to assert your rights, and go beyond what scheduling clerks or secretaries believe to be true. A worksite leader is always available to participate at a meeting between a bargaining unit member and their supervisor.
You have the right to representation by a worksite leader during conversations with your supervisor that could potentially lead to discipline or termination. If you think the conversation is disciplinary in nature, follow these important steps:
